Donald and Stephen Glover Developing Live-Action PUBG Series for Netflix

Netflix is developing a live-action television series based on the battle royale video game "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds", widely known as "PUBG". Donald Glover is attached to star in the project and also plans to direct.

Roles and Production

In addition to starring and directing, Donald Glover will write and executive produce the show alongside his brother and frequent collaborator Stephen Glover. Other executive producers include Michael Schaefer of Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, which is the entertainment division of "PUBG" publisher Krafton. Plot details for the upcoming series are currently kept under wraps.

Background and History

Krafton originally published "PUBG" in 2017. The game does not have a traditional plot and instead drops large numbers of players onto maps with various weapons and items in a last-man-standing deathmatch. The game remains extremely popular nearly ten years after its release, breaking multiple Guinness world records when it first came out and maintaining hundreds of thousands of daily active users. The Glover brothers previously collaborated on the hit FX series "Atlanta", the Amazon series "Swarm", and the musical film "Guava Island".

Context

Video game adaptations have become a major focus for streaming platforms and Hollywood studios looking for established intellectual property with built-in global audiences. Netflix is currently working on several other game-based projects, including an "Assassin's Creed" series and a "Gears of War" film.
