Greenhouse gases released since Paris accord worsened 2025 European heatwave

Greenhouse gas emissions released since the adoption of the Paris climate agreement in 2015 made recent European heatwaves more severe. Specifically, a major heatwave that hit Europe in June 2025 would have been one-third of a degree cooler if not for the fossil-fuel emissions produced over the decade following the landmark accord.
Context
Rising global temperatures driven by greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events worldwide. Scientific studies frequently analyze these climate patterns to measure how human activity directly impacts regional weather extremes.
