Bengaluru-based electric vehicle maker Ather has crossed 8 lakh total retail sales to become the fourth company in India to reach this milestone. Data from the Vahan portal shows the company hit the target on September 28, 2026.

Sales Growth

Ather delivered 4.75 lakh scooters between January 2025 and September 28, 2026, which accounts for 59 percent of its total brand sales over the past 21 months. The Rizta family e-scooter led this growth. The company previously reached a 12 percent market share in 2023 after passing 1 lakh sales, followed by 1.36 lakh units and an 11 percent market share in 2024. Its highest monthly sales ever came in March this year at 36,633 units, and it crossed 30,000 monthly units four times in the past year.

Market Position

Among other firms, Ola crossed 10 lakh sales in March, TVS passed Ola in August to reach 10 lakh sales, and Bajaj hit 8 lakh sales in June. Ather dispatched 29,694 e-scooters to dealers across India in August, with the Rizta making up 76 percent of those wholesales and the 450 series making up 23 percent. The newly launched Konarc sold 217 units in its first month after its August 29 release.

Strategy

The Konarc targets mass-market scooters like the TVS iQube, Orbiter, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida VX2, Simple Wave, and the Ola S1 Z. Ather chief business officer Ravneet Phokela stated that the Konarc may take some sales from the Rizta, but the company accepts this because the Konarc offers a higher profit margin. Phokela added that Ather aims to convince petrol scooter owners to buy the Konarc instead of competing with current electric models. Backed by strong momentum, Ather could finish the year with 3.5 lakh total sales.

Context

Electric two-wheeler adoption in India continues to grow rapidly as more buyers switch from traditional petrol scooters to battery-powered options. Government portal data like Vahan helps track these vehicle registrations across the country in real time.
