Maharashtra government on Tuesday launched the 'Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Maha Rozgar Melava' to connect youth from Konkan and Nashik divisions with job openings in more than 28 countries, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.
Launch
The virtual event was hosted from SNDT Women's University in Mumbai and was part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan marking 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continuous tenure. Fadnavis emphasized that a degree alone is insufficient and urged continuous upskilling in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing.
Scale
Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha reported employment fairs at 418 locations with over one lakh youth registered. More than 1,500 employers have signed up, and the employers have listed demand for over 25,000 vacancies. A special women’s fair at SNDT saw 36 employers participate.
Training
Seven‑day free pre‑employment training has so far reached 61,000 candidates. The government aims to link at least 70% of participants to employment or self‑employment. Training includes interview preparation, personality development, soft‑skill and communication workshops, as outlined by Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil.
Context
India’s working‑age youth make up about 65% of the population, prompting the state to pair education with skill development to meet evolving technology demands and boost employability abroad.
