Yamaha is reportedly planning to discontinue the R15M variant, which will create a clearer price step to the newly launched R2. The R15M currently sits between the R15 V4 and the R2, sharing the 155 cc platform but adding premium equipment. Its price range of Rs 1.79‑2.00 lakh is only about Rs 30,000 below the entry‑level R2 priced at Rs 2.30‑2.40 lakh (ex‑showroom). Removing the M model would widen the gap to roughly Rs 51,000‑60,000, depending on the price source, making the R2 a more distinct upgrade. Sales of the R15 range fell sharply in August 2026, with combined volume slipping to 7,691 units – a 26.79% drop from July’s 10,505 and the lowest in six months. The R15M’s 155 cc engine delivers 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm, while the R2’s larger 204 cc unit produces 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm, an increase of 8.1 PS and 4.9 Nm. The R2 also carries a bi‑directional quickshifter, three riding modes (Street, Sport, Rain), a smart key, and an adjustable suspension, whereas the R15M offers only an up‑shift‑only quickshifter. Chassis design differs as well: the R15M uses Yamaha’s Deltabox frame, while the R2 adopts a steel‑tube diamond frame. Dealerships still have limited stock of the R15M, and the quickshifter may be sold as an accessory for the base R15.

Context

The move reflects Yamaha’s effort to streamline its fully‑faired lineup after a sales slump, positioning the R15 V4 as the entry option and the R2 as the clear next step for riders seeking more power and features.
