Rahul Bhatt has admitted that he overreacted more than twenty years ago when he assaulted actor Ranvir Shorey after an altercation involving Pooja Bhatt. Back in 2002, Ranvir and Pooja were living together when an argument led to the alleged physical incident. Rahul stepped in to protect his sister, breaking Ranvir's car glass and one of his ribs. Rahul was subsequently arrested and charged for taking the law into his own hands. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rahul expressed regret for his past actions and praised Ranvir for how he handled the aftermath. Instead of exploiting the situation for money, Ranvir agreed to let bygones be bygones and helped quash the FIR, ending a pending criminal case. This stance contrasts sharply with statements Rahul made just a year prior in an interview with Hindi Rush, where he had claimed he would repeat the assault and boasted that no law could stop him if someone messed with his sister. Ranvir Shorey has previously opened up about the controversy, calling it the biggest scandal of his life. The intense media scrutiny forced him to temporarily leave India for the United States, where he borrowed money from his brother to pursue a six-month acting course. Upon returning, he resumed work with The Great Indian Comedy Show in 2005 as previously shelved films finally hit theatres. Ranvir also alleged that filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt acted manipulatively during the fallout by planting false stories portraying him as an alcoholic and abusive person instead of stopping the backlash.

Context

Public disputes and personal fallout within the film industry often resurface in interviews decades later as actors reflect on their past careers. Legal resolutions such as compounding an offense allow parties to settle certain matters privately with court approval, leading to dismissed charges. Both actors have since moved on with their personal and professional lives following subsequent marriages and divorces.
