United States President Donald Trump signed an agreement on Tuesday at the White House with top technology executives to guide the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, which he announced is officially renamed "Super Intelligence." President Trump met with SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk and other tech leaders in Washington DC to establish the "White House Accord on Super Intelligence." The accord sets voluntary commitments for the industry as Trump pushes companies to self-police while keeping America's technological edge over China. During discussions, Trump emphasized his push to reclassify the sector, stating, "It's not artificial." Elon Musk corrected his own slip of the tongue during the appearance when he referred to the technology under the new terminology, saying, "I think it is worth highlighting the positive benefits of A.I. ... S.I., pardon me," to which Trump playfully responded, "Thank you." Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei highlighted both opportunities and hazards, pointing to the incredible benefits and very real risks of the technology. Amodei stated that whoever wins AI wins, and that working together with the president allows them to win safely. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called the meeting a historic conversation and underscored the need for public trust. Zuckerberg said they want to give the American people and customers confidence that the technology works as intended, adding that companies agreed to implement multiple layers of auditing and controls featuring rigorous internal evaluations and external audits. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang underlined the sheer economic scale of the computing sector, stating that the boom is driving the single largest infrastructure buildout in human history. Huang argued that investments in semiconductor fabrication plants, computing factories, and emerging startups are generating an enormous amount of jobs across the United States, calling it the largest industrial revolution in history. The remarks follow an Executive Order titled "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence," which formally directs the federal government to replace the terms "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" with "Super Intelligence" and "SI" across all executive branch operations.
Context
Artificial intelligence has become a major focus of global policy and economic investment as governments compete for dominance in advanced technology. Voluntary industry agreements and executive orders are often used by administrations to shape corporate practices and safety standards without waiting for formal legislation to pass through Congress.
