Making a Hindi film is the most difficult task in the movie industry because filmmakers do not know who their target audience is. Actor Ajay Devgn shared this view while speaking on the second day of FICCI FRAMES.

Audience Challenges

Devgn, who has spent over three decades in the film industry, explained that Hindi cinema faces an extra challenge because of audience diversity. Regional and international films have a clear target viewer, but Hindi movies must aim to appeal to everyone. He noted that the language and thought process change every 80 to 90 kilometres, and filmmakers must balance different groups like mass and class audiences.

Upcoming Film

Devgn will next star in Drishyam: The Conclusion, which brings back his character Vijay Salgaonkar. The cast also features Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav, and Kamlesh Sawant, alongside new actors Jaideep Ahlawat, Prakash Raj, and Saurabh Shukla. Written and directed by Abhishek Pathak, the movie is an original story that deviates from the Malayalam franchise and is not a remake. The film will release in theatres on October 2, 2026.

Context

Hindi cinema is produced for a pan-India market that spans multiple states, cultures, and languages, unlike regional cinema which caters primarily to specific linguistic states. Filmmakers often grapple with how to create commercial blockbusters that satisfy both urban multiplex viewers and single-screen audiences in smaller towns.
