The National SARAS Mela-2026 at Punnami Ghat in Vijayawada reopened on Thursday after closing down on Wednesday because of rain warnings issued for the city.
Details and Appeal
NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha stated that the exhibition, which started on October 15, will end on October 31. He asked people to use the last two days to visit the stalls and back women entrepreneurs. Mr. Lakshmisha walked through the venue and spoke with Lakhpati Didis from different States to check on sales and visitor response. The mela features many items made by women in self-help groups, such as handicrafts, traditional artifacts, household goods, textiles, and special local products.
Context
Craft fairs like this give women from self-help groups a direct platform to sell goods and connect with urban buyers. Such events often close temporarily when heavy rain warnings are issued to ensure public safety at open-air venues.
