Nelson Dilipkumar's action film Jailer 2 has crossed the Rs 500 crore gross milestone in India on its fifteenth day in theatres. The film's current gross earnings stand at Rs 502.65 crore, with net India collections reaching Rs 429.55 crore and worldwide gross earnings totalling Rs 765.15 crore.

Box Office Numbers

On its third Thursday, the film collected Rs 5.90 crore net across 10,313 shows in India. The original Tamil version earned the highest share with Rs 3.20 crore from 4,462 shows, followed by the Telugu version at Rs 1.40 crore, the Hindi version at Rs 1.10 crore, and the Kannada version at Rs 20 lakh. This figure marks an 18.1 percent drop from the previous day's collection of Rs 7.20 crore.

Milestone Context

Jailer 2 has now become only the second Tamil film in history to cross the Rs 500 crore domestic gross mark. The only other film to achieve this milestone was S Shankar's 2018 sci-fi action movie 2.0, which collected Rs 519 crore domestically. While 2.0 benefited from a wider release in the Hindi market aided by actor Akshay Kumar, Jailer 2 faced a limited Hindi rollout due to disputes with major multiplex chains over a four-week streaming window. Despite this, Jailer 2 has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time globally.

Context

Sequels in Indian cinema often command high box office expectations when backed by major stars and festive release windows. Jailer 2 follows the success of the 2023 film Jailer and features an ensemble cast including Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, SJ Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, and Vidya Balan, with music by Anirudh Ravichander and production by Sun Pictures.
