Discovery of the Body

Former Bangladesh Air Force officer KM Tahseef Souri was found dead in the Turag River near the Rajabari Ghat area of Uttarkhan in Dhaka. Police recovered the 28-year-old's body at around 4:30 PM yesterday after he went missing following a phone call from a friend.

Family Accusations

Tahseef's family has alleged that he was murdered, pointing to continuous harassment he faced after sharing social media footage of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country in 2024. According to his relative Jahan, Tahseef did not record the video himself, as a colleague filmed it, and he merely shared it as a citizen. The family stated that because of this video, he faced constant mistreatment, job termination, and mental harassment.

Prior Allegations and Dismissal

Last year, the Jamaat-e-Islami-leaning newspaper 'Amar Desh' published a report claiming that Tahseef worked for India's intelligence agency, RAW. Following these reports, authorities dismissed him from service and seized his passport for two years, though Tahseef denied these accusations during a podcast appearance a few months ago.

Context

Political shifts and social media posts often carry high risks during periods of civil unrest in South Asia. Security personnel accused of political disloyalty routinely face severe institutional and public scrutiny.
