Odisha is adding an artificial intelligence course to its degree apprenticeship programme starting in the 2026-27 academic year.
Course Details
Students in the second semester of the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme will study 'AI for All' instead of the current Good Citizenship course. Director of Higher Education Kali Prasanna Mahapatra has asked college principals and registrars to set up the new classes on time. The syllabus matches the Skill Enhancement Course already given to non-apprenticeship students.
Program Growth
The apprenticeship scheme combines two years of college study with one year of paid job training. The programme has grown from 30 colleges offering two subjects in 2025-26 to 81 colleges covering 11 subjects for the 2026-27 session.
Context
Integrating technical skills into undergraduate education is part of a wider push to match college degrees with current job market demands. Programs that mix classroom learning with practical work experience help students transition smoothly into full-time employment after graduation.
