UPDATE - follow-up to Retd. IAS officer S. Natarajan is Tamil Nadu Chief Information Commissioner: Four new officials have now been appointed as State Information Commissioners to fill empty seats in the Tamil Nadu Information Commission. The newly named commissioners are S. Mahalakshmi, T.K. Shabeer, C.B. Meena, and P. Mahalingam. These appointments follow the recent selection of retired IAS officer S. Natarajan as the State Chief Information Commissioner to lead the same panel. Every member appointed to these positions will serve for a term of three years from the day they take charge, or until they reach the age of 65 years, whichever comes first.
Context
Information commissions handle public appeals and complaints regarding government transparency and access to information laws. Filling vacant posts helps these panels clear pending cases faster and keep public departments accountable to citizens.
