A US‑backed team of mercenaries races to recover $25 million hidden in pre‑Revolution Iran in the new film The Fix.

Plot

The story opens in Kabul, 2021, as American forces scramble to leave a resurgent Taliban. Lead mercenary Tucker (Zachary Levi) and his crew – Wes Chatham, Jake Choi, Augusto Aguilera and Quincy Isaiah – jump to Iran to chase the same stash. In Tehran they aim to free activist Maryam (Lara Wolf) from the Revolutionary Guards. The group also brings Zara (Elnaaz Norouzi), an American fluent in Farsi, to smooth their entry. Double‑crosses and flashbacks to Virginia and Baku keep the plot shifting between mountain passes, marshy rivers and urban streets. Guilt over an Afghan ally lost in 2021 haunts the team throughout.

Cast

Liam Neeson appears as Larry, the CIA handler whose rambling hints at deeper danger but remains a minor, ponderous role. Elnaaz Norouzi, known for Hindi shows like Sacred Games, plays Zara and flirts with danger despite Tucker’s stern warnings. The ensemble also includes Quincy Isaiah, Wes Chatham, Jake Choi, Augusto Aguilera and Lara Wolf.

Reception

Critics praise the cinematography and the ambition to stitch together a tangled geopolitical mess. However, the film drags for 142 minutes, causing the narrative to lose focus. Reviewers give it a modest 2.5‑star rating, noting that the grand intentions outpace the execution.

Context

The Fix blends real‑world US involvement in Afghanistan and Iran with a fictional treasure hunt, reflecting how cinema often dramatizes ongoing foreign‑policy dramas for entertainment.
