Indian equity markets staged a strong recovery during the week ended October 30, 2026. The Sensex gained 1.8 percent to reach 74,460, while the Nifty advanced nearly 2 percent to 23,053. Markets had a subdued start due to high crude oil prices, but rallied on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged. This decision eased oil prices and spurred institutional buying. Banking, FMCG, Realty, and IT stocks led the recovery alongside supportive earnings. However, mid- and small-cap participation stayed mixed, with crude oil prices remaining a key concern. Mehul Kothari, Deputy Vice President for Technical Research at Anand Rathi, noted that Friday's session saw significant selling pressure. The Smallcap 100 declined nearly 2 percent and the Midcap index fell around 1 percent. These broader indices are struggling near major resistance zones, and the Nifty has not yet cleared the crucial 23,200 hurdle. Kothari noted that sustainable upside requires the Nifty to move above 23,200 along with a breakout in broader market indices. On the downside, 22,600 serves as the immediate support level, followed by 22,400. For Bank Nifty, which gained about 0.75 percent during the week, Kothari identified 53,000 as a crucial support zone and 56,000 as the previous swing high the index needs to cross for bullish momentum. To help investors navigate the current market, Kothari recommended three stock picks under Rs 200. First, IDBI Bank has a buy recommendation at Rs 80, with a target of Rs 85 and a stop loss of Rs 78. Second, IGL is recommended as a buy at Rs 139, with a target of Rs 145 and a stop loss of Rs 135. Third, CESC carries a buy recommendation at Rs 125, with a target of Rs 132 and a stop loss of Rs 121.

Context

Stock market analysts routinely issue technical recommendations based on chart movements and support or resistance levels to help traders plan entries and exits. Broader market participation alongside benchmark index movement is widely viewed as a sign of healthy market breadth during rallies.
