Actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar celebrated her first Karwa Chauth with her husband Nicholai Sachdev in Hyderabad on Thursday. Cloudy skies made it hard for the couple to spot the moon, which is traditionally sighted before breaking the fast. Varalaxmi even used a moon-tracking app on her phone to try to locate it. To help her complete the ritual, Nicholai drew a picture of the moon for her so she could break her fast. Varalaxmi shared a video on Instagram showing moments from the celebration, including her preparing a puja thali and going to the terrace with Nicholai. One photo in the clip showed her husband proudly showing off his drawing. For the festival, Varalaxmi wore a red-and-gold saree, while Nicholai wore a traditional white kurta and veshti. The couple got engaged in March 2024 and married in July that same year. Nicholai works as a businessman, art gallerist, and powerlifter. He was previously married to Kavita and has a daughter named Kasha. After their engagement, Varalaxmi spoke to Galatta and addressed criticism about Nicholai being a divorcee, stating that her own father married twice and she does not care about negative comments. In another recent interview with Behindwoods, Varalaxmi stated that she and her husband have made a firm, personal choice not to have children, noting it is not due to any medical reason. On the work front, Varalaxmi recently appeared in the Malayalam film Dheeram, as well as the Telugu films Police Complaint and S Saraswathi, which she also directed and co-produced. Her upcoming projects include the Sri Lankan film Rizana – A Caged Bird.
