Investigation

Bengaluru police questioned a 38-year-old man who is accused of secretly recording a woman passenger on the city's Namma Metro network. The incident happened close to the Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station. The suspect has been identified as Santosh, a resident of Nagarabhavi who commutes to Whitefield for his job at a private company. Police have taken his mobile phone into custody to send it for a forensic check.

Legal Action

Santosh appeared before the Kadugodi police station on October 29 to record his statement, where he denied all the accusations made against him. Investigators stated that he had already secured anticipatory bail, though a magistrate instructed him to fully assist with the ongoing probe. Police officers noted that he showed them his phone during questioning, claiming no such video was on it. Authorities plan to call him in for another round of questioning once the forensic reports are ready. The case was registered after the victim shared her account of the event on social media, leading to a formal police complaint. Investigators have also visited and inspected the metro station as part of the procedure and booked the man under Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for stalking.

Context

Public transit systems in major Indian cities are increasingly implementing safety measures and surveillance to protect commuters from harassment. Public disclosure of such incidents on social media often prompts swift police intervention and formal legal complaints under updated criminal laws.
