Cockroach Janata Party president Abhijeet Dipke has publicly apologised to singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh following a public rebuke at a Delhi concert. The friction began in June when Dosanjh distanced himself from student protests over the NEET paper leak during an Instagram Live session, stating that he is only an artist and quoting the Guru Granth Sahib. That response drew criticism from Dipke, who accused the singer of hypocrisy given his earlier support for the 2020 farmers' agitation and his work in politically charged films. On Friday evening at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during his RuPay AURA India Tour 2026, Diljit addressed the row directly from the stage. Without naming Dipke or the party, the singer told the crowd that no one should teach Punjabis how to fight and called out the mockery of his film Satluj on stage. Satluj tells the story of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who highlighted illegal killings and secret cremations in Punjab during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The film took nearly three years to release due to Central Board of Film Certification hurdles and was later taken down from OTT within two days by the government over security concerns. Following the concert, Dipke posted an Instagram note sharing a photo from Diljit's Chicago concert in May and asking the singer to forgive him as his younger brother. Dipke explained that his initial criticism stemmed from hurt because he viewed Diljit as someone who always speaks up for causes. He added that one disagreement does not change his respect for the artist and ended his note with a line from Diljit's song GOAT.

Context

Public figures often face intense pressure to take stands on social and political issues in India, especially when previous activism has set high expectations among fans. Cultural events and artistic works frequently become flashpoints for wider debates regarding free expression, censorship, and political accountability. Resolving such public disputes through social media messages helps performers and political figures de-escalate tensions before media scrutiny grows further.
