Aadarsha Kutumbam-House No. 47 balances predictable family drama with crime and comedy

The new Telugu film Aadarsha Kutumbam-House No. 47 reunites actor Venkatesh with writer-director Trivikram Srinivas after more than two decades. Venkatesh stars alongside Srinidhi Shetty, playing middle-class characters Chitti and Swarna. The film's title playfully hints at both a traditional family and the action-heavy AK-47, leaning into Venkatesh's familiar screen image as a family superstar who protects his relatives. Before the interval, the story introduces a crime element when the simple family openly celebrates a lottery win, despite currently struggling with loans and medical expenses. A parallel storyline follows a gang of criminals, leading up to whistle-worthy twists that pull the rug out from under the audience. The supporting cast features actors like Raghu Babu, Sathya, Nara Rohith, Sachin Khedekar, Rao Ramesh, and Brahmaji, along with child actor Raj Prajwal and teenage actress Yuvina. While the movie mixes comedy, crime, and drama, it does face some flaws in its second half. Certain twists after the introduction of Rao Ramesh and Brahmaji feel muddled, and the music by S Thaman fails to deliver memorable songs. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran handles the visuals simply, while the direction avoids black-and-white morality to explore grey areas.
Context
Family entertainers that blend light comedy with sudden criminal threats are a popular formula in regional Indian cinema. These films often rely on established star personas to draw audiences during festive seasons, even when the plot follows a predictable path.
