Eight civic bodies across the North Andhra districts of Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, and Parvatipuram-Manyam are set to hold elections on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Officials expect a decent voter turnout despite recent bad weather and remain hopeful of clear skies on polling day.

Local Arrangements

Senior officials like Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy and election observer Tej Bharat have arranged elaborate preparations for polls in Vizianagaram, Nellimarla, and Bobbili. Polling staff have been instructed to reach their designated stations early to ensure smooth operations. In the Vizianagaram municipal corporation, 2.23 lakh voters will cast ballots across 229 stations in 62 divisions, managed by 1,649 officials. Seven candidates are running for mayor, while nearly 220 are contesting for corporator seats. Bobbili has 69 polling stations overseen by 497 employees, and Nellimarla has 24 booths managed by 173 staff members. Meanwhile, political parties are actively distributing voter slips across the three towns.

Political Contest

The ruling NDA partners, including the TDP, JSP, and BJP, are pushing hard to win all three civic bodies. At the same time, the YSRCP aims to repeat its clean sweep from the 2021 local body elections despite facing challenges such as top leaders leaving the party. In Srikakulam district, authorities have readied polling for Palasa and Ichchapuram, both areas severely hit by Cyclone Arnab. Parvatipuram-Manyam district will hold votes in Saluru, Parvatipuram, and Palakonda, where Collector N. Prabhakar Reddy noted that police and revenue departments have taken special care to secure smooth voting in hilly regions.

Context

Municipal elections in India are local body polls held to elect representatives for urban local governance, such as town councils and municipal corporations, which handle local civic needs like water supply, sanitation, and urban roads. These elections often serve as an important indicator of grassroots political support for major state-level political parties.
