BJP Telangana State President N. Ramchander Rao called the public hearing for the Musi Rejuvenation Project a farce on Friday, stating that the people most likely to face displacement were left out of the talks.
Project Concerns And Demands
Speaking at the party office in Hyderabad, Rao pointed out that ex-servicemen living in the Madhu Park area under the Gandhi Sarovar project limits were kept out of a meeting held near Himayatsagar on October 28 by Musi Riverfront Corporation officials. He asked for a Praja Darbar to be held with the affected families before moving ahead, warning that his party will fight any house demolitions that do not offer proper payment, rehabilitation, and resettlement. He also stated that cleaning the Musi River can be done using scientific methods instead of forcing people out of their homes on a large scale.
Funding Criticisms And University Demands
Rao also criticized past and present state governments over funding, claiming the former BRS government promised 750 crore rupees for the Musi Corporation but only gave 3 crore rupees, while the current Congress government talks about spending thousands of crores without showing a detailed project report or clear budget plans. Later, at a meeting with contract university teachers, he demanded that state universities absorb eligible contract faculty before making fresh hires, and give them UGC pay scales and Seventh Pay Revision Commission benefits.
Upcoming Political Visit
In addition, Rao shared that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Hyderabad on November 2 for a Maha Padayatra starting from the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue near Nizam College and ending at the Mozamjahi Market crossroads, where a public meeting will be held to counter the Congress Party's stand on the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Context
Public hearings and project consultations are standard steps in large urban and riverfront development plans to gauge public sentiment and address grievances. Disputes over displacement, compensation packages, and fund allocations frequently arise during major infrastructure and cleanup initiatives in growing Indian cities.
