Telangana launches startup challenge to tackle seven public‑sector problems

The Telangana government has launched the Telangana Innovation Startup Challenge, inviting startups and innovators to propose solutions for seven public‑sector problems, with applications closing on November 30.

Challenges

The lead challenge focuses on affordable solar‑powered irrigation, seeking solar pumps or retrofit kits that cost about 30 % less and have theft‑proof panels and metering. Other calls include a fast kit to test food adulteration, an AI system to monitor kitchen hygiene in hostels, satellite tools to spot illegal encroachments on lakes and government land, vehicle‑mounted cameras that map potholes and road‑repair material that endures monsoon rains, a handheld needle‑free device for haemoglobin checks by Anganwadi workers and ANMs, an AI‑driven Telugu reading assessment for children, and a satellite‑and‑app based crop‑mapping service that works at the survey‑number level weeks after sowing.

Participation

Startups, individual inventors, researchers, industry players and academic bodies from across India and abroad can apply via tisc.telangana.gov.in. Selected entrants will get pilot projects, direct contracts and a chance to display their products at the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026 in Bharat Future City this December. The programme brings together T‑Hub, T‑Works, WE‑Hub, the Telangana Global Innovation Centre and the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad to test and scale the ideas.

Context

Such challenges aim to turn innovative ideas into public‑sector tools, a model the state has used to boost local tech firms and improve services in agriculture, health, education and infrastructure.
