State-owned power producer NTPC Ltd. recorded a standalone net profit of ₹5,320 crore for the September quarter, marking a 14.3% increase from the same period a year ago.
Financial Growth
The profit growth was supported by a nearly 17% rise in revenue from operations, which reached ₹45,752 crore during the quarter. On a consolidated basis, the company posted a 40.7% jump in net profit to ₹7,351 crore, driven by a 73% increase in profits from subsidiary companies to ₹1,990 crore.
Generation And Efficiency
The stronger financial results came from higher electricity generation and improved operational efficiency. Commercial generation went up by 11.1% to reach 92.413 billion units. The plant load factor, which measures how efficiently a power plant uses its capacity, rose to 73.53% compared to 66.01% in the previous year. Average power tariff realization also edged up to ₹5 per unit in the first half of the fiscal year from ₹4.90 per unit previously.
Context
Power generation companies in India often see higher demand during periods of deficient monsoon rainfall because of increased need for irrigation and cooling. State-owned firms like NTPC play a central role in meeting the country's baseload electricity requirements.
