Actor Iqbal Khan moved to Mumbai from Kashmir in 2001 with hopes of achieving instant stardom like Shah Rukh Khan, but his early Hindi films failed to gain traction against massive star-studded projects.

Financial Struggles

His early film projects such as Fun2shh... Dudes in the 10th Century and Bullet: Ek Dhamaka released alongside major titles like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and LOC Kargil. When these films failed, work dried up completely, leaving him without projects for almost two years and facing severe financial trouble.

The Turning Point

Faced with unpaid rent and rising expenses, he sold his car and travelled by bus, nearly leaving Mumbai to return home. Desperate to pay rent, he accepted the lead role of rock star Angad Khanna in Ektaa Kapoor's romantic drama Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai in 2005. The show became an instant prime-time hit, making him an overnight sensation and earning him the title of the "Shah Rukh Khan of the small screen" from Ektaa Kapoor.

Career Growth And Current Work

Following his breakthrough, he starred in numerous popular television shows including Kavyanjali, Kahiin To Hoga, Tumhari Pakhi, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, Bahu Hamari Rajni Kant, and Dil Se Dil Tak. He later expanded into digital streaming and films, appearing in thrillers like Crackdown and Commander Karan Saxena, as well as movies like Jalsa and Indoo Ki Jawani. He currently leads the medical drama Yaadien on Sony SAB and SonyLIV alongside Gulki Joshi and Srishti Singh.

Context

Television in India has often served as a powerful alternative platform for actors who face initial setbacks in the Hindi film industry. Shows produced by major production houses like Balaji Telefilms have historically launched the careers of numerous actors into mainstream household fame.
