Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet all forty-eight party legislators from Haryana at his New Delhi residence on Saturday in a first since the party took power at the Centre and in the state in 2014. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will lead the group of lawmakers through the visit.
Meeting Details And Context
Before heading to the Prime Minister's residence, the MLAs will have lunch with Saini at Haryana Bhawan in Delhi. The Prime Minister has set aside two hours for the interaction. Party sources indicate Modi is likely to ask the legislators about the political situation in the state and public feedback on government welfare schemes. BJP Haryana chief Archana Gupta stated that Modi had committed to meeting the MLAs when she met him on July 29 after taking charge as state president on May 20. Gupta denied any connection between the gathering and opposition criticism over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls or upcoming elections in neighbouring Punjab. BJP national president Nitin Nabin will attend the meeting. The event follows recent organizational changes that named former Union minister Smriti Irani as Haryana's in-charge and Lok Sabha MP Dr Bhola Singh as co-in-charge.
Context
Such high-level interactions between top party leadership and state legislators are common platforms for aligning local governance goals with national party strategy. These meetings allow grassroots representatives to share regional concerns directly with the executive leadership.
