UPDATE - follow-up to Breeders' Cup 2026, day two: horse racing – live: Deterministic won the Breeders' Cup Mile after holding off a fast-finishing Notable Speech at Keeneland. Sent off at odds of 5-1, Deterministic led into the final furlong and held on as the evens favourite made rapid ground from way off the pace. Ridden by Kendrick Carmouche, Deterministic crossed the line first among 13 runners, with Notable Speech second and Lake Forest third. William Buick had Notable Speech three wide around the final turn and faced a five-length deficit at the top of the stretch, which proved too much to chase down. Lake Forest finished third in the race, running in the blue-and-white colours of owner Tony Bloom. Aidan O'Brien trained True Love, who ran in the same race alongside Puerto Rico, while Japanese-trained runners Ask Ikigomi and Lugal also featured in the field. In the Breeders' Cup Sprint, T O Elvis secured a victory for Japan under jockey Ryusei Sakai. T O Elvis was at least eight lengths behind Englishman when that rival hit the lead two out, but produced a strong finishing kick to grab the lead two strides from the line. Englishman finished second, while Liam Smith took third place to reward his each-way backers.
