UPDATE - follow-up to Breeders' Cup 2026, day two: horse racing – live: Nitrogen delivered a dominant performance to win the Breeders' Cup Distaff at Keeneland as the 3-5 favourite under jockey Jose Ortiz.
Distaff Result
Super Corredora set an early pace after starting off with a modest opening quarter of 23.57 seconds, while Nitrogen sat back in third. Jose Ortiz steered Nitrogen to the outside in the stretch, and once he pushed her to the lead, she pulled clear by at least a length to secure victory. Fully Subscribed finished second and Measure took third in the seven-runner field. Trainer Mark Casse's four-year-old winner entered the race with a strong record, including an emphatic win at Saratoga in June.
Turf Previews
European stables look to salvage the evening in the upcoming Grade One Breeders' Cup Turf over one mile and four furlongs, holding the top eight spots in the British bookie betting. Aidan O'Brien saddles the market leaders Diamond Necklace and Benvenuto Cellini, though jockey Ryan Moore opted to ride the latter after Diamond Necklace drew wide in stall 12. Bay City Roller stands out as another strong contender following a Group One win at Epsom and a solid run at Longchamp, with Oisin Murphy in the saddle. Meanwhile, last year's winner Ethical Diamond returns with rider Dylan Browne McMonagle, and Sir Mark Prescott's mare Tiffany aims to add another major trophy to her stable's collection.
Context
The Breeders' Cup is a major end-of-season international horse racing event that brings together top runners from North America, Europe, and Asia to compete across multiple Grade One championship races. Keeneland hosts this year's competitions, highlighting the fierce rivalry between American dirt specialists and visiting turf champions.
