Sundar C told reporters that just fifteen out of roughly three thousand visual‑effects shots in his upcoming film Mookuthi Amman 2 rely on artificial intelligence, rejecting online chatter that the sequel is AI‑driven. He explained that the movie’s CGI work was handled by a team of almost four hundred specialists who have been on the project for more than eighteen months. He praised the crew, noting that every frame was crafted by local Tamil‑Nadu technicians and urged viewers to applaud the quality of the computer‑generated imagery rather than blame it on AI. Mookuthi Amman 2 marks Sundar’s directorial debut on the franchise, taking over from RJ Balaji. The film stars Nayanthara, who returns as the goddess and also portrays a police officer, while Regena Cassandrra and Duniya Vijay play the antagonists. Supporting roles are filled by Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Ramachandra Raju, Myna Nandini and Singampuli. The picture is set to hit theatres on 6 November, with paid premieres scheduled for 5 November. Beyond the movie, Sundar recently contested the Madurai Central seat in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly election as a Puthiya Needhi Katchi candidate aligned with the AIADMK‑led alliance, but he did not secure the win. He has directed and acted in Gangers, and has two projects lined up—One 2 One as an actor and Purushan as a director. A planned collaboration with Rajinikanth and producer Kamal Haasan was later taken over by Ashwath Marimuthu, now titled Dharman, which also features Nayanthara.
Context
The claim that AI could replace traditional visual‑effects work sparked debate, but industry practice still relies heavily on skilled artists. Sundar’s clarification underscores that AI is currently a supplementary tool, not a replacement for the extensive manual effort required in large‑scale Indian film productions.
