Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 contestant Almas Khan left host Amitabh Bachchan stunned with a humorous admission about falling asleep during his 1997 film Mrityudaata.

The Encounter

Appearing during the show's India Challenger Week in the September 30 episode, the Jaipur-based single mother and tiffin service operator recalled watching the action drama at the city's famous Raj Mandir theatre with her cousins when she was young. Almas told the megastar that she found the venue so beautiful and comfortable with its air-conditioning that she dozed off, waking up only when the movie had ended and a song was playing on screen. Amitabh Bachchan gave a quick, witty reply asking how she could watch a film while sleeping if it was already over.

Film Details

Directed by Mehul Kumar, Mrityudaata marked Bachchan's return to the big screen after a five-year acting hiatus. The action drama featured him as Dr Ram Prasad in a battle against crime and corruption, alongside Dimple Kapadia, Karisma Kapoor, Arbaaz Ali Khan and Paresh Rawal. Despite high anticipation, the film received negative reviews and performed poorly at the box office. Almas ultimately exited her KBC 18 journey with five lakh rupees after missing a question worth twelve point five lakh rupees.

Context

Kaun Banega Crorepati is the Indian adaptation of the popular international quiz format Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan for most of its multi-season run. Conversational banter between the host and contestants forms a major part of the show's entertainment value alongside the trivia competition.
