UPDATE - follow-up to Delhi court reserves order on CBI's plea seeking transit remand of Sourabh Chandrakar: A Delhi court has reserved its order on the Central Bureau of Investigation plea asking for a two-day transit remand for Sourabh Chandrakar.

The Hearing

Principal District and Sessions Judge Nikhil Chopra stated that the court would pronounce its order at 4:30 p.m. The agency wants the transit remand to take the accused to a special court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The Opposition

Lawyers representing Mr. Chandrakar opposed the request during the hearing. They argued that authorities extradited him from Oman specifically for a Prevention of Money Laundering Act case, rather than the CBI case.

Case Background

Mr. Chandrakar is the main accused in the β‚Ή6,000-crore Mahadev online betting app case. The CBI brought him back from Oman on Sunday. He currently faces charges in two CBI cases and one Enforcement Directorate case, where authorities have already filed chargesheets.

Context

Transit remand is a legal procedure that allows law enforcement agencies to move an arrested person from one state or city to another for court presentation. Extradition involves moving a suspect from a foreign country back to India to face ongoing legal proceedings.
