UPDATE - follow-up to Andhra Pradesh civic polls result LIVE | Counting of votes underway across 92 ULBs; heavy rains postpone counting in Bapatla and Prakasam districts:
Vote Counting Updates
Vote counting faced delays in several regions due to missing strong room keys and heavy rain. Officials in Parvathipuram broke open strong room locks at around 10 a.m. after getting consent from all political parties because the original keys went missing. The State Election Commission suspended two polling officers over this incident. Meanwhile, counting in Bapatla and Prakasam districts was postponed from 8 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. due to heavy downpours brought by Cyclone Murasu.
Leading Trends
Early trends show the TDP leading across Chittoor, Annamayya and Sri Sathya Sai districts. In Nellimarla, TDP rebel candidate L. Appala Naidu took an early lead through postal ballots by securing 57 out of 102 counted votes, while the YSRCP received 28 votes and the BJP got 17. Authorities have deployed 47,817 personnel and set up 1,372 CCTV cameras across 138 counting centres statewide to monitor the process.
Context
Urban local body elections form the third tier of government in India, managing civic amenities like water supply, sanitation, and street lighting in towns and cities. Vote counting is a tightly secured procedure overseen by state election authorities to ensure fairness and transparency in local governance results.
