UPDATE - follow-up to Andhra Pradesh civic polls result LIVE | TDP takes early lead; rain, missing strong room keys delay counting: The High Court has cleared the counting of votes for the Pulivendula municipality after the YSRCP sought a repoll following violence on polling day. Early trends show Y.S. Prameelamma, the YSRCP candidate for the municipal chairperson's post and aunt of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, leading against NDA rival T. Geetha Kumari.
Vote Counting
Counting is underway across 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh, covering 13 Municipal Corporations and 79 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats. The process spans 3,186 wards with 138 counting centres established across the state. A total of 47,817 personnel and 1,372 CCTV cameras have been deployed to oversee the counting.
Early Leads and Delays
Early trends indicate the TDP is leading in the Chittoor region, as well as Annamayya and Sri Sathya Sai districts, after securing several seats unanimously. In Punganur, 27 of 36 unanimously decided wards went to the TDP. Heavy rain from Cyclone Murasu delayed counting in Bapatla and Prakasam districts, while missing strong room keys delayed the process in Parvathipuram until locks were broken open at 10 a.m. with party consent. The State Election Commission has suspended two polling officers over the missing keys.
GVMC and Other Results
In the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation elections, CPI(M) candidate M. Krishnaiah has reportedly registered the first win in Ward 105, securing 1,068 votes against TDP candidate K. Vijay Kumar. Meanwhile, the Jana Sena Party is leading in five of the first nine wards counted in Pithapuram, the constituency of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan.
Context
These civic body elections involve millions of registered voters across the state who cast their ballots earlier in November. Vote counting processes are closely monitored by election authorities and security personnel to manage disputes and ensure transparency.
