UPDATE - follow-up to Andhra Pradesh civic polls result LIVE | TDP takes early lead; HC clears Pulivendula count; rain, missing keys delay counting: Vote counting is under way across 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh following elections held on November 1, 2026. Early trends show the TDP ahead in the Chittoor region after winning several seats unanimously. Heavy rain from Cyclone Murasu delayed counting in Bapatla and Prakasam districts, while missing strong room keys caused a delay in Parvathipuram.

Vote Details and Centres

The counting covers 3,186 wards across 13 Municipal Corporations and 79 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats. Authorities set up 138 counting centres and deployed 47,817 personnel to manage the process. Officials also installed 1,372 CCTV cameras at strong rooms and counting centres. The urban local body polls recorded a final voter turnout of 62.16%, with 60,22,411 voters casting their ballots out of 96,89,061 registered electors.

Initial Results

In the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation elections, the TDP, JSP, and CPI(M) have each won one ward. Ippaka Varalakshmi of the TDP won Ward No. 1, Anga Sandhya Rani of the JSP won Ward No. 75, and M. Krishnaiah of the CPI(M) secured Ward No. 105. In Peddapuram municipality, the JSP won four wards, the TDP two, the BJP one, and the YSRCP one. Winners must avoid public celebration rallies due to the Model Code of Conduct. In Kuppam, mild tension arose between TDP and YSRCP workers over alleged vote manipulation before police intervened. In Pulivendula, YSRCP candidate Y.S. Prameelamma led against NDA rival T. Geetha Kumari in early trends.

Context

Urban local body elections decide the local governance and leadership of cities and towns, directly impacting civic amenities like water supply and roads. Vote counting is a strict administrative process governed by state election guidelines to ensure transparency and prevent electoral disputes.
