Major film distribution firm Pen Marudhar has acquired the all-India rights for Gunmaaster G9 for over 35 crore rupees and the Hindi version rights for Jailer 2 for upwards of 15 crore rupees.
Gunmaaster G9 Details
Gunmaaster G9 stars Emraan Hashmi, Genelia Deshmukh, and Aparshakti Khurana. The movie is directed by Aditya Datt and hits theatres on November 27. The distribution team expects the film to benefit from the success of Awarapan 2, which also stars Emraan Hashmi and was distributed by Pen Marudhar.
Jailer 2 Plans
The Hindi version of Jailer 2 brings back Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian, also known as Tiger. The cast also features Vidya Balan and Mithun Chakraborty, with a theatrical release set for October 15. The first Jailer film in 2023 faced heavy box office competition from Gadar 2 and OMG 2 and skipped national chains, but later gained a large following on OTT and satellite platforms. Pen Marudhar hopes to leverage national multiplex chains this time, pointing to the lifetime Hindi earnings of 34 crore rupees for Rajinikanth's previous film, Coolie, which was also a Northern belt release by the same company.
Context
Film distribution companies acquire theatrical rights to profit from ticket sales and box office performance across different regions. Major star-driven projects often rely on strategic multiplex releases and prior franchise popularity to build a strong audience in the Hindi-speaking market.
