Heavy rains are lashing the combined Khammam district and Bhadradri Kothagudem district, causing severe damage to crops in Wyra. According to Asianet News Telugu, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued red alerts for Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Suryapet districts due to the severe weather driven by a storm system over the Bay of Bengal.

Flood and Damage

In Wyra, flood water is flowing in large amounts into the main Wyra reservoir. The Mallepula stream is overflowing, which has left farm fields completely underwater. Near Rajupeta, an approach road washed away in the flood waters, bringing traffic to a complete stop between Palwancha and Dammapeta.

Weather Warnings

Apart from red alerts, the weather department has placed Mahabubabad district under an orange alert. Mulug, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Yadadri, and Nalgonda districts are under yellow alerts, with thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several areas.

Context

Heavy monsoon and storm activity frequently trigger sudden stream overflows and road washouts in low-lying regions of Telangana. Local administrations typically respond by deploying disaster response teams and issuing travel warnings to protect residents from rising water levels.
