FBI Director Kash Patel is engaged to his girlfriend, country singer and political commentator Alexis Wilkins. The couple announced the news in a post on X on Sunday, with Wilkins sharing a black-and-white photo showing off her ring next to 46-year-old Patel and adding the caption, "Went and got the law involved." Patel shared her post on his own account using heart and diamond ring emojis. The two met at a friend's event in Nashville in 2022 and began dating in early 2023. Wilkins, 27, attended Patel's swearing-in ceremony as head of the FBI on February 21, 2025. Their relationship has drawn public attention since Patel took charge of the bureau, particularly over questions regarding his travel and lawsuits filed by Wilkins. Last month, Wilkins made a rare public appearance at his Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on FBI oversight on September 15. Wilkins released her debut work in 2023, has hosted a show on Rumble, served on the board of the National Rifle Association, and performed at President Donald Trump's Great American State Fair on the National Mall as part of America 250. Patel has faced criticism from Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee for using government aircraft on trips with no clear law enforcement purpose. This includes an FBI jet flight to State College, Pennsylvania, for a pro-wrestling event where Wilkins sang the national anthem and the couple posed with a large golden championship belt. Patel has stated that he is legally barred from flying on commercial airlines and told a podcast in December that he and his partner pay for their own personal travel.

Context

High-ranking law enforcement officials and government agency heads in the United States face strict oversight regarding their use of official resources like government aircraft. Public scrutiny often extends to the personal lives and public appearances of officials and their families, especially when questions are raised about the use of taxpayer-funded assets for non-official travel.
