Actress Rakul Preet Singh has issued a public statement denying any personal connection to recent Income Tax Department searches in Mumbai or any involvement in illegal foreign money transfers. On September 28, tax officials carried out searches at around 12 locations linked to Rakul, her father-in-law and producer Vashu Bhagnani, and Panorama Studios, which is associated with producer Kumar Mangat Pathak.

Denies Wrongdoing

Rakul stated that the investigation was not related to her and criticized unverified reporting. She noted that she comes from an Armed Forces background and entered the film industry without a godfather, adding that she has paid her taxes since she was 20 years old. She also stated that she does not hold any benami property in India or abroad, and that she never accepts expensive gifts.

Investigation Details

The tax department searches focused on an ongoing probe into suspected financial irregularities involving film financing and overseas transactions. Investigators examined documents, bank records, and financial transactions, looking specifically at funds sent abroad for shooting expenses, production costs, and overseas distribution. Authorities have not announced any formal charges or specific figures, and a search does not automatically establish wrongdoing. Meanwhile, reports indicated that Vashu Bhagnani was hospitalized in London during the searches.

Context

Income tax searches are part of preliminary fact-finding procedures used by authorities to examine financial records and verify compliance. Such actions do not mean that formal charges have been proven against any of the parties involved. Media reports on ongoing regulatory probes often surface while investigations are still active.
