Actor Rakul Preet Singh has issued a public statement to distance herself from Income Tax Department searches that targeted locations linked to her and her father-in-law, producer Vashu Bhagnani. Posting on her official Instagram account, she denied involvement in foreign remittances and stated she holds no benami properties.
The Statement
The searches were not related to her, according to the actor, who criticized online reporters and mainstream media journalists for sensationalizing unverified news. She noted that she comes from an Armed Forces background with no industry godfather, adding that she has paid her taxes responsibly as a law-abiding citizen. She also stated that she has never accepted expensive property gifts from anyone. Rakul urged media outlets and individuals to retract false and malicious reports that could harm her reputation and livelihood. While she addressed the rumors, her statement did not mention her father-in-law, her husband Jackky Bhagnani, or the production company Pooja Entertainment by name. On the work front, she is preparing for the release of the film Ramayana, in which she plays Shurpanakha.
Context
Income Tax Department searches are official procedures used by tax authorities to investigate suspected financial irregularities and check for tax evasion. Public figures often issue social media statements to clarify their positions when their names appear in connection with high-profile financial investigations.
