Actor Sanjay Dutt is facing heavy criticism on social media after stating on a talk show that he no longer feels peace in India. The controversial remarks were made during a special Gandhi Jayanti episode of the YouTube talk show Shekhar Tonite, hosted by fellow actor Shekhar Suman. During the conversation, the actor praised the people of India as kind and hospitable, but added that he could not feel the same sense of peace anymore and prayed to Lord Shiva for those earlier days to return. The episode also featured humorous talk involving the names of Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and US President Donald Trump. Towards the end of the appearance, the actor played his famous character Munna Bhai and pretended to be the Prime Minister for five minutes, telling the audience in Hindi that he was happy to take on the responsibility and would not flee abroad to celebrate.

Reaction And Clarification

After clips from the show went viral and drew angry responses online, Sanjay Dutt published a statement on his social media pages to clear the air. He stated that his remarks were part of a scripted and funny dialogue meant to use satire in the style of his Munna Bhai movies and the idea of Gandhigiri. He added that he never meant to insult or hurt any person, group, or institution, and that his words were simply taken out of context. Show host Shekhar Suman also spoke up to defend the actor in an interview with NDTV. Shekhar Suman described his show as pro-people and completely fair, adding that Sanjay Dutt's words were harmless, positive, and deeply respectful of the nation.

Context

Talk shows often feature humorous or satirical segments where public figures play fictional roles or adopt specific personas for entertainment. When these light-hearted moments are shared on social media platforms without their original setting, they can easily cause public misunderstandings and intense debates online.
