Test Launch

India successfully test-fired the indigenous quasi-ballistic missile Pralay on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. The short-range surface-to-surface missile has a payload capacity of 500 to 1,000 kilograms and is capable of carrying conventional warheads. The test took place at around 11:10 a.m. as part of user evaluation trials, with all objectives fully met as confirmed by data from various range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur.

Development And Reactions

The missile was developed by the Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad alongside other Defence Research and Development Organisation laboratories, while Bharat Dynamics Limited manufactured the system as a development-cum-production partner. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the teams and stated that the weapon features advanced technologies that will boost military preparedness against emerging threats. Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also congratulated the involved teams.

Context

This successful trial paves the way for the imminent induction of the Pralay missile system into the armed forces. User evaluation trials are a key final step before military adoption, ensuring weapon systems meet strict operational standards in real field conditions.
