Mahindra Auto is testing a new suspension system for the Thar Roxx SUV. Recent test mules of the vehicle have been spotted more frequently. The updates being tested are hidden beneath the surface rather than visible at a glance. The smaller 3-Door Thar, recently renamed Thar OG, received several mechanical updates including the DaVinci suspension system. The DaVinci setup shares technology and comfort features with the more expensive XUV7XO model. Since the Thar Roxx sits above the Thar OG in the product line, it is expected to receive these same suspension improvements. Currently, the Thar Roxx features a penta-link rear suspension and Frequency Dependant Dampers, known as FDD. Standard FDD units use a linear damping curve and a mechanical valve to adjust oil flow depending on the road surface. However, standard FDD has limitations during hard cornering and large impacts because of its linear response. Mahindra's DaVinci dampers are a modified form of frequency dependent dampers with specially designed mechanical valves and shim stack positions. This creates a non-linear damping curve that allows varied oil flow across different points of the damper's travel. This design helps manage sudden heavy impacts and sharp cornering much better than standard setups.

Context

Automakers frequently test mechanical updates on public roads before rolling them out to customers in newer model years or facelifts. Upgrading suspension components helps improve ride comfort and handling without changing the core exterior design of a popular vehicle. Mahindra has not yet officially confirmed a release date for the updated Thar Roxx.
