Opposition leaders staged a protest march against the Election Commission in Delhi, which ended in police detentions. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took an unplanned step that surprised both the police and their own party members.

The Surprise Move

Priyanka Gandhi was already seated inside a police bus parked outside Akashvani Bhavan, and Rahul Gandhi was about to board it. The siblings suddenly walked past the police officers and entered the Akashvani Bhavan premises. This action was completely off the script and left security personnel unsure of how to react. Other Congress leaders, including KC Venugopal, Pawan Khera, Imran Pratapgarhi, and Srinivas BV, then climbed the boundary wall to raise slogans. Local party MPs admitted they had no prior knowledge of this plan. Congress members later stated that this move successfully ruined the police plan to end the protest quickly.

Current Status

Congress leaders remained camped inside the premises while top security officers held talks with them. Personnel from the Delhi Police and the Rapid Action Force were deployed outside the building. A police officer stated that the force inside the premises was only deployed to ensure the safety of the leaders.

Context

High-profile political protests in the national capital frequently involve heavy police deployment, temporary detentions, and sudden standoffs near key government or public buildings. Opposition parties often stage demonstrations to register their political objections against constitutional bodies and government policies.
