Three men from Maharashtra were arrested by the Sangareddy Police for allegedly robbing motorists in cars parked along National Highway 65 during the night. The arrested individuals are 32-year-old Hasan Sameer Shaik, 35-year-old Santosh Segar Dhagudu, and 24-year-old Naushad Jakir Sayyad, while a fourth suspect, 28-year-old Rafik Shamshoddin Shaikh, remains absconding.

How They Operated

The suspects targeted isolated stretches of the highway where motorists had stopped due to emergencies. They typically parked their motorcycle at a distance, wore black caps to hide their faces, and approached vehicles carrying a fake air pistol and knives. After threatening the occupants, they stole cash and gold ornaments before fleeing toward Latur in Maharashtra on their unregistered blue Yamaha motorcycle.

Cases and Seizures

Investigators linked the gang to three highway robberies in Sangareddy district and another in Humnabad, Karnataka. Specific incidents included a robbery on October 17 within Chiragpally Police Station limits where gold items and cash were stolen, and two separate robberies on October 25 near Aroor village and within Koheer Police Station limits. Police seized a Yamaha motorcycle without a registration plate, a spring-action fake air pistol, two knives, caps, sweaters, Aadhaar cards, and mobile phones.

Context

Highway robberies involving vehicles parked in isolated spots during nighttime highlight the security risks faced by long-distance motorists. Police departments frequently advise travelers to use well-lit public areas like petrol pumps or dhabas for emergency stops to ensure personal safety.
