Rajasthan Police Rescue Six Minor Girls From Prostitution Racket Run By Relatives
Reported by Rituparna Sen (Section Editor) · Indian Express - India ·
The Raid
Police in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district rescued six minor girls aged between 12 and 17 from an alleged prostitution racket earlier this week. The action took place on November 3 after the Superintendent of Police office received a complaint last month. The complaint stated that families from a denotified tribe were pushing young girls into the trade with the help of local brokers.
Police Investigation
A special team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Ayush Shrotriya used a decoy operation and spy cameras to gather digital evidence. According to Jhalawar Superintendent of Police Amit Budaniya, preliminary checks show that five of the six girls faced repeated sexual exploitation. Medical tests also revealed that two of the rescued girls were suffering from sexually transmitted diseases.
Arrests and Legal Action
Officers raided multiple spots with more than 100 personnel, including women in plain clothes, and seized incriminating material examined by a Forensic Science Laboratory team. Police arrested five people, including three women who are relatives and neighbours of the victims. A court sent the suspects to a three-day police remand on Friday.
Rehabilitation
The accused face charges under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Authorities presented all six girls before the Child Welfare Committee before moving them to a shelter home. Officials confirmed that infected victims received medical care and vaccinations.
Context
Child protection laws like the POCSO Act impose strict legal penalties to safeguard minors from abuse and exploitation in India. Law enforcement agencies frequently rely on undercover decoy operations to gather hard proof in sensitive human trafficking cases before launching raids.
