UPDATE - follow-up to Europe bomb threats 'likely co-ordinated campaign': Irish government: Ireland's government announced that hoax bomb claims sent to multiple media outlets in Dublin on November 6, 2026, were likely part of a co-ordinated campaign of disruption.

Targets and Impact

Police responded after national broadcaster RTE, Virgin Media, Newstalk radio, and The Irish Independent newspaper all received hoax bomb claims. Newstalk radio host Claire Byrne stated after returning to air that staff had been advised to leave their building following a message received there, before later being told the warning was a hoax. Staff were also evacuated from RTE's site in Donnybrook, Dublin, after a threat that the broadcaster claimed came from the same group behind a wave of threats to passenger flights across Europe this week.

Official Response

The Irish government stated in an official release that the threats made against media organisations were very serious and caused fear, distress, and disruption to people going about their daily lives. Authorities confirmed that police, along with Ireland's military, cyber, and aviation agencies, are working with European counterparts to find and hold the culprits accountable. Officials noted that no responsibility has yet been established for the threats, which coincide with an ongoing spate of threats forcing European flights to be rerouted, make unscheduled landings, or be escorted by fighter jets.

Context

These threats arrive ahead of two days of high-profile European Union meetings scheduled to take place in Dublin the following week. Such security scares involving public institutions and transport networks typically trigger multi-agency responses from national police and intelligence units to trace digital footprints.
