The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will conduct a special one‑hour Diwali Muhurat trading session on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The session opens at 2:20 pm and ends at 3:30 pm, following a pre‑open period that starts at 2:05 pm. Investors may place limit and market orders until 2:10 pm. Between 2:10 pm and 2:15 pm only limit orders are accepted, and order matching and confirmation occur from 2:15 pm to 2:17 pm. The markets will be closed on Tuesday, 10 November 2026 for the Diwali‑Balipratipada holiday, halting trading in equities, derivatives, electronic gold receipts and debt. The week saw the Nifty 50 rise almost 8 %, its best weekly performance ever, while benchmark indices closed Friday with a near‑2 % gain, extending a six‑day winning streak. The Nifty breached the 25,000‑point mark and the Sensex climbed 1,718 points. Mahindra & Mahindra posted the largest gain among Sensex constituents, up 6.115 % after a strong Q2 FY27 earnings report. ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Titan, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank also rose, while Power Grid was the only blue‑chip laggard.

Context

The Muhurat session is a traditional, shorter trading window held during major Indian festivals, allowing investors to lock in auspicious trades while markets observe the holiday. It follows a week of strong domestic buying supported by foreign fund inflows and lower crude‑oil prices, which helped offset weak global market sentiment.
