The Electoral Registration Officer of the Mustafabad constituency has filed a police complaint seeking an FIR under Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act against a Booth Level Agent. North East District Election Officer Ajay Kumar stated that authorities independently verified a media report and discovered that 36 out of 37 Form 7 applications, which request voter deletions, were false or fabricated.

Investigation Findings

The Booth Level Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer checked all 37 forms. They found that three voters who were falsely listed as dead were actually alive at their homes, and all other targeted electors were also living at their given addresses. Only one of the total cases checked out as true. A press release from the District Election Officer noted that action was invoked because the objector knowingly made a false statement in writing during the revision of the electoral roll. An analysis showed that over 77% of the 1,021 Form 7 applications received up to November 3 named 20 BJP booth agents as objectors, with all these applications targeting Muslim electors.

Context

Form 7 is a formal application used under election laws to object to the inclusion of a name or to seek the deletion of an entry in the electoral roll. Election authorities scrutinize these forms through local officers to prevent wrongful voter removals and protect electoral integrity. Verification and inquiry into remaining Form 7 applications in the area remain ongoing.
