Delhi Police have filed a formal police case against senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra following a trespass complaint over a protest inside Akashvani Bhawan.

The Protest March

On Tuesday, opposition lawmakers organized a protest march from Parliament toward the Election Commission headquarters to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral manipulation. Police blocked the march using barricades on Parliament Street after the crowd had covered about 700 metres. While the initial police action detained numerous participants, several leaders breached the security setup. Rahul Gandhi climbed over the police barricades and entered Akashvani Bhawan through an open side gate, while the main gates remained shut.

Sit-In And Detention

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with other leaders including KC Venugopal and Deepender Hooda, followed him inside the building located near the poll panel office to demand a meeting with the Election Commissioner. The group staged a sit-in protest inside the premises that lasted for several hours before police personnel detained them in the evening. Authorities moved the detained politicians to the New Police Lines in Kingsway Camp before releasing them later that night. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party rejected the opposition allegations and criticized the demonstration.

Context

Akashvani Bhawan houses public broadcaster All India Radio and sits in central Delhi in close proximity to major government and election offices. High-security zones in the capital frequently witness political demonstrations, and security agencies enforce strict access controls around key administrative buildings during such events.
