Two men suspected of opening fire inside a Jamshedpur shopping center last month sustained bullet injuries during an exchange of fire with law enforcement officers early Wednesday. Mohan Yadav and Ajit Mondal were apprehended earlier in the national capital and returned to Jharkhand to assist with the investigation.
The Encounter
Officers escorted the pair toward the Phagu Baba crematorium ghat along Marine Drive before dawn to retrieve hidden firearms based on information provided during questioning. Authorities retrieved two pistols from the spot. While at the location, both suspects grabbed the recovered firearms, discharged three rounds toward the police party, and attempted to escape. A police bodyguard returned fire with three shots, striking both men below the waist. Medical staff at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital admitted the wounded pair for medical care.
Investigation and Motives
Investigators stated the pair belong to a criminal faction led by Ganesh Singh and carried out twelve rounds of gunfire inside a restaurant at the commercial complex on the afternoon of September twenty-sixth. That daylight attack wounded four people named Dominique Samson, Rizwan, Dilshan, and Krishna Chowdhury. A third suspect named Kundan Singh allegedly operated the getaway motorcycle. Police previously announced a cash reward of one lakh rupees for information leading to the capture of each of the three primary suspects. Officers also detained four alleged planners in Chhattisgarh on September twenty-eighth.
Context
Police are examining potential motives tied to territorial control over railway contracts, illegal real estate transactions, and local gang rivalry. Investigators noted that past violence in the region has frequently involved disputes between rival contractors and criminal syndicates operating around industrial areas.
