Norton has recently filed trademark applications for three new names: International, also referred to as Inter, Avelon, and Roven, pointing to a possible expansion of its motorcycle lineup. The UK-based manufacturer, backed by TVS, currently sells two models in Europe, the Manx R and the Atlas, while two more models, the Manx and the Atlas GT, are revealed but not yet on sale.
Past Trademarks
This is not the first time the company has trademarked names without immediate product launches. Back in 2020, Norton trademarked six names including Combat, Electra, Fastback, Navigator, Nomad, and Ranger shortly after TVS took over the brand. Six years later, those earlier names remain unused, showing that trademark filings do not always guarantee concrete production timelines or final motorcycle models.
The Atlas Model
Among its current offerings, the Atlas is built completely in India and features a 585cc twin-cylinder engine that delivers 69hp and 57.5Nm of torque. The motorcycle is positioned as a tourer equipped with cruise control and advanced rider aids such as lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, slide control, and launch control. Industry expectations suggest the Atlas will launch in India at a lower price point than its UK price of GBP 8,250, where it will face competition from models like the Honda NX500, Kawasaki Versys 650, and the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 750.
Context
Automotive brands frequently file trademark applications to secure legal rights for potential future models well in advance of actual development or production. TVS Motor Company acquired the historic British motorcycle brand Norton in 2020 and has since been working on reviving its global portfolio and establishing local manufacturing operations.
